A Walk Toward Fluidity, A Step Closer To Instability

How does a Christian answer society’s pseudo example of progress? You answer society with the truth. The truth is — in our present American society it is no longer normal for a man to dress as a man and be considered fashionable.  The picture above is what has been referred to as the show stopper outfit of the evening for the red-carpet Oscars in 2019. A man (Billy Porter) wearing an outfit composed of half of a man’s black tuxedo attached to a women’s black formal gown. The attire is being heralded as a clear example of gender fluid attire. Fluidity implies instability.  Just like a drop of water on a table. The unstable drop rolls wherever the table tilts. Unstable foundations like the concept of fluidity are not good to build a lifestyle upon.  What does the Bible say about gender and dress?

First of all, God made two genders: male and female.

“But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female” (Mark 10:6).

Furthermore, those genders were to be distinguishable from each other in the way they dressed.

“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 22:5).

Finally, there are consequences for those who choose to disobey God’s design.

Therefore, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done” (Romans 1:24–28).

God is clear in His scriptures. Gender was designed to be understood and easily recognized. The United States has lost all sense of morality by adopting the world’s framework that dress is not attached to gender and is fluid.

Despite all of this, I do not fear for the future of our nation or our children.  I do not believe things are lost. Why? I trust in God. Truth is still found in scripture.  I do not trust humanity to teach my child social norms in the area of gender. Christians need to continue to point to absolute truth so that, those seeking God can find it. If Noah could raise children to know the righteousness of God in his day. (Genesis 6:9-13). So, can you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
