When you think of honor, what is the first thing that comes into your mind? You see, honor is a powerful word. In our nation it is reserved for the best among us. Honor is associated with acts of heroics or accomplishing a rigorous challenge. Why is honor not associated with God? The reason is that the world has worked hard to make sure you forget to honor God with your life. The concept of honoring the I AM is found throughout the Bible.
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me” (Deuteronomy 5:6,7). “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Romans 1:21). Why is it that we have such a difficult time honoring God? We dishonor God when we choose sports, family, work, and even self over Him. Every time we dishonor God we darken our hearts to Him. The great news is if you love God, you can change. How?
Start by placing God first in your life. That might mean making a change in your life that you are not comfortable with yet. Work to keep God’s commandments. Come to the Lord’s church as often as you can to worship, encourage others and be encouraged. Look for ways to help those around you and meet a need. Get involved with something new at the Lord’s church. Challenge yourself to do something new. Go to God in prayer and ask for strength to change. Remember God is the great I AM. Choose to honor the I AM.
